                         3. Based on our technolopy, RealTek have developed products that have been used in more than 50%

of the NB and PC in the world.

Contribution to Industry

From 1992~1994, we helped Winbond design analog filter ICs. The ICs had been in mass production.

From 1994~1996, we helped Macronix design Sigma-Delta A/D converter ICs. The ICs had been in mass production.

From 1997-2000, we helped TSMC building up the design and test technique on A/D and D/A converters. A 8-bit 50MHz A/D converter in 0.25um/0.35um process, a 10-bit 20MHz A/D converter in 0.25um process, and a 16-bit 48KHz Audio D/A converter in 0.35um process were successfully designed. In addition, we helped TSMC build up 16-bit 60MHz ADC IP in 0.25um (State-of-the-art).

Since 2003, with a co-operation contract, we helped Advanic Technologies, Inc. develop digital class-D audio amplifier based on the 10-year research results in MSIC Lab. In order to setup the capabilities of technique, application and sales for Advanic, I formally served as the President of Advanic under the agreement of NCKU since 2004. At most one-third of the employees at Advanic were my Ph.D. students due to the encouragement from NCKU. At the end of 2005, Advanic was the first company in Taiwan to own a team which is excellent at system design, integrated circuit design, mass production and reliability for class-D amplifiers. Advanic Technologies Inc. was merged by Elite Semiconductor Memory Technology Inc (ESMT), which has the highest Taiwan stock price in 2002, at the end of 2005 due to its state-of-the-art technologies. My students and I spent five years to develop the techniques and train about thirty engineers. After the merged, I returned to NCKU for more advanced researches.

Till now, the class-D audio amplifier products of stereo, 2.1 channels and 5.1 channels were successfully designed, mass produced, and sold in the market. The products use QFN packages without the need of extra heat sinks and produce over 20W output power per channel. The total output power of a chip can deliver over 50W with 93% efficiency, a 103dB SNR/DR and THD less than 0.05%.
